OhmConnect just got better. I didn’t plan on writing a review for this but after watching my electric bill savings sky rocket last month I had to write a review and share. 😌

Did you know you can earn some extra cash for saving electricity in your home? Allow OhmConnect to auto shut off your smart devices, participate in #OhmHours and start earning!

 

What is OhmConnect and how does it work?

OhmConnect is a service that alerts you and your smart home when dirty, expensive power plants switch on nearby and pays you for reducing your electricity use.

 

There are two primary ways to earn cash back.

1. Participating in #OhmHours. You get notified prior to a specific date and time to turn off devices in your home to reduce electricity use. The time of event takes place between 6PM and 8PM. This may differ depending on location.

• Events are usually between 1 to 2 hours.
• Average OhmConnect community members earn between $100-$300 per year.
• Point multipliers are given to members who achieve #OhmHour goals and streaks.

2. Set up #AutoOhms. #AutoOhms is a recently introduced program that requires a home network connected thermostat and smart plugs. You simply connect your devices with OhmConnect and allow them to shut them off automatically during the pre-announced events.

• Events are usually 15-45 minutes in length.
• Daily max is 2 hours per day.
• Thermostats earn $0.75 for every 15 minutes of being shut off.
• Smart plugs earn $0.15 for every 15 minutes of being shut off.

 

Climb Tiers and Earn More

You can earn quite a bit depending on how often you participate in the events. The more you participate the higher you will climb in tier.

There are 6 tiers:

CARBON: This Status means you’ve signed up for OhmConnect but haven’t fully enrolled. You’re not participating in #OhmHours and you’re using too much dirty power. Luckily, we’re here to help!

BRONZE:  Reach this Status when you start participating in #OhmHours. You’ll earn tokens for every #OhmHour you opt into. Tokens can be redeemed for prizes and PowerUp cards. Note: you can’t earn cash for saving energy when you’re Bronze.

SILVER: This is where it starts getting fun. Silver Status means you’ve fully enrolled (connected your utility and signed our enrollment form) and are able to earn cash for participating in #OhmHours every week. You’ll earn points for reducing energy, which you can cash out through PayPal.

GOLD: We look back at your previous 5 #OhmHour, and calculate the average energy you reduced. If your average reduction is more than 15% of what we expected you to use, you’ll level up to Gold Status and earn 6x points for your #OhmHours when you beat your forecast.

Heads up: if you’re Gold and you do not beat your forecast, we’ll dock you at your new 6x rate.

PLATINUM: If your average reduction is more than 40% of what we expected you to use, you’ll reach Platinum Status and earn 10x points for your #OhmHours when you beat your forecast.

Heads up: if you’re Platinum and you do not beat your forecast, we’ll dock you at your new 10x rate.

DIAMOND: This is the top, folks. If your average reduction is more than 80% of what we expected you to use, you’ll reach Diamond status and earn 12x points for your #OhmHours when you beat your forecast.

 

My Experience

You basically start of on Silver once you’re fully enrolled. Reaching Gold is fairly easy. I’m currently at the Platinum tier after achieving 16 #OhmHours in a row. It did not take much effort to be honest. Reaching Diamond seems a bit of a challenge.

Multiplier bonus increase as you accomplish more events. Once you reach this point, your rewards REALLY start to add up.

Here is how much I was paid during the most recent one month period. Keep in mind, I don’t go out of my way like some do and turn off my circuit breakers. 🙄

 

Each point = 1 cent.

Total #OhmHour earnings: $44.86!

 

Here is how much #AutoOhms have paid during the same period.

Looking only at the current months earnings, the total comes to $14.25.

 

Total earnings for Air Purifier is $1.50

 

Total earnings for Living Room Light is $1.20

 

Total earnings for Bedroom Light is $1.50

The smart plugs were only recently added to participate with #AutoOhms.

Total #AutoOhms: $18.45

#OhmHours + #AutoOhms = $63.31 😅

 

My electric bill averages around $80 to $90 per month. Who needs solar panels on the roof when the savings are this good! 😁

Reward points can be redeemed by the following options. Keep in mind you can only make one redemption per month.

 

Conclusion

Ohmconnect is even better with #AutoOhms. The combination of both #AutoOhms and #OhmHour really give a nice boost to how much rewards you can earn. The rewards really begin to add up once you get a streak going.

I usually go out for some exercise, catch up on reading, or have dinner during this time. I actually grew to love turning things off and changing things up! Especially the days when I am tied up to my computer and reading all day. It’s a great reminder to take a break from the digital world.
